FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions.

Simply point your camera at any food product barcode. The app will automatically detect and scan the barcode, then retrieve detailed nutritional information, ingredient analysis, and a health score for the product.
The health score (0–100) is calculated based on multiple factors including nutritional value, ingredient safety, additives present, sugar content, and overall processing level. A = Excellent (80–100), B = Good (60–79), C = Mediocre (40–59), D = Poor (20–39), E = Bad (0–19).
Our analysis is based on publicly available product data. Results may vary if manufacturers change their formulations. Always check the actual product label for the most up-to-date information, especially if you have allergies.
Hold your phone steady about 6–8 inches from the barcode. Make sure the barcode is well-lit and not damaged. Align the barcode within the scanner frame and wait for the automatic detection. Avoid glare and shadows.

Nutri-Score is a front-of-pack nutritional labeling system that rates food products on a color-coded scale from A to E. The score is calculated using a point system: positive points are awarded for beneficial components like fiber, protein, fruits, vegetables, legumes, and nuts, while negative points are deducted for energy, saturated fats, sugars, and sodium. A dark green A indicates the best nutritional profile, light green B is still favorable, yellow C is average, orange D is poor, and red E signals the least balanced nutritional composition — typically sweets or fatty snacks.
NOVA is a framework developed in 2009 by researchers at the University of São Paulo that classifies foods based on their degree of industrial processing, not their nutritional content. It divides all foods into four groups: Group 1 (unprocessed or minimally processed foods like fruits and vegetables), Group 2 (processed culinary ingredients like oils and flour), Group 3 (processed foods like canned fish or cheese), and Group 4 (ultra-processed foods with many industrial additives). NOVA is widely used in public health research to study the health implications of consuming highly processed foods.
Eco-Score measures the environmental impact of a food product across its full lifecycle — from raw material extraction to production, packaging, transport, and disposal. Like Nutri-Score, it uses an A to E scale: A means very low environmental impact, while E indicates very high impact (e.g., beef and lamb exceed 15 kg CO₂ equivalent per kg). The score combines a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) base score with bonus or penalty points for factors like recyclable packaging, sustainable sourcing, biodiversity risks (overfishing, palm oil deforestation), and product seasonality.
